Best Mattresses in India (2026)

Almost every bad mattress purchase in India starts the same way. Someone compares across segments — a pocket spring against a budget foam against a latex — as though they were swaps for each other. They are not.

Decide first which constraint really binds you:

• Material — you sleep hot, so you want airflow.
• Budget — you have a hard ceiling.

That one decision removes most of the market. It also makes the rest of the comparison honest, because everything left is built for the same buyer.

Start with how you sleep:

• Side sleepers need give at the shoulder and hip to keep the spine level. Medium to medium-firm.
• Back sleepers need lumbar support with no gap under the lower back. Medium-firm to firm.
• Stomach sleepers need firm. A soft surface drops the hips and bends the lower back.

Body weight then shifts the same rating. Under about 60 kg, a firm mattress never squashes enough to contour, so it reads as hard. Above about 90 kg, a medium-firm squashes right through to the support core and behaves like a medium.

Firmness ratings, "orthopedic", "premium" and most cooling words are unregulated. Nobody checks them.

A certification names a body you can look up:

• GOLS — audits how much of the latex is natural.
• CertiPUR-US — tests foam for fumes and banned substances.
• OEKO-TEX Standard 100 — covers harmful substances in fabric.

None of them covers comfort or lifespan. They are not swaps for each other either. An OEKO-TEX badge on a latex mattress says nothing about whether the latex is natural. Where a product shows none at all, treat its claims as the maker's word.

In a room with no AC, the build that moves air wins.

• Pocket springs vent best. The spring layer is mostly air.
• Latex is open-celled and usually pin-cored, so it breathes well.
• Memory foam hugs the body and holds heat. Sleeping hot is the top complaint in Indian memory foam reviews.

Gel infusions and open-cell foams reduce the problem without removing it. If your room has no AC and you already sleep hot, let that outrank most other preferences.

Indian bed frames are not standardised. "King" covers several footprints — 72×72, 72×75, 66×78 and 72×78 all sell under that name.

Measure the inside of your frame rather than trusting the size name. Two inches too wide and the mattress will not sit flat. Two inches too narrow and you get a gap that shows.

Thickness is set by your weight first — see the box at the top of this page. Your frame is the tie-breaker. A thick mattress on a high frame can leave the bed uncomfortably tall, or the headboard oddly proportioned.

A 10-year mattress warranty in India almost always covers one thing: sagging past a stated depth, often 25 mm, measured with nobody on it. It does not cover comfort. Deciding you dislike the firmness is not a defect.

Two exclusions recur across brands, and both tend to surface at claim time:

• Damage from an unsuitable base — a king frame with no centre support, or slats more than 5-7 cm apart.
• Any claim made without the original invoice.

A trial window is worth more than warranty years. Memory foam in particular takes two to four weeks to feel normal.
